Precision Rooting. Chemical-Free.

At RootHog Forestry and Land Services we specialize in the chemical-free removal of invasive species and restoration of native habitat on the toughest terrain in the Driftless Area.

Steep slopes? No problem.

Using low ground-pressure equipment (Ventrac 4520) we navigate steep slopes and tight spaces where heavy machinery can’t reach and shouldn't go. Our Ventrac 4520 operates safely on slopes up to 30 degrees.

We "root out" the problem. By combining precision brush mowing with stump grinding we meet the roots at their level without the use of herbicides.

Our mission is a complete cycle of restoration. One cut won't fix your problem — which is why our restoration process includes two years of follow-on maintenance visits to establish the seed bed and hold the ground.

Roothog will stabilize the soil and re-establish native growth, ensuring your land stays healthy, productive, and invasive-free.

Our services

Brushcutting For the stuff that fights back. Dense woody invasives, saplings, and overgrown thickets up to 3" diameter — cleared mechanically without chemicals or heavy equipment damage.

Tough Cut Mowing High grass, thick weeds, and overgrown fields that standard mowers quit on. Three heavy-duty counter-rotating blades cut and deposit evenly — no windrowing, no mess, no excuses.

Flail Mowing The right tool for slopes, wet areas, and sensitive terrain. Clean finish without throwing debris — safe around native seedings, pollinator plantings, solar arrays, wetlands and ponds.

Native Seeding Clearing without seeding is just an invitation for reinvasion. After the invasives come out, we seed with provenance-appropriate native species matched to your site — slope, aspect, soil, and hydrology. We close the loop.

Annual Maintenance Packages One visit clears it. Annual visits keep it that way. Seasonal agreements lock in your visits, your price, and your priority scheduling — so your land doesn't slide back to where it started.

MFL Reporting MFL enrollment requires documented management activity. We track what we do, when we do it, and what we find — and deliver a simple annual summary you can hand directly to your DNR contact. One less thing on your plate
